Sewing School

Learn to make, mend and rework

Beginner sewing, mending and upcycling classes for every level. Practical skills that keep clothes in use and out of landfill.

We believe making is a form of empowerment.

Our education programme exists to help people move from simply consuming clothing to understanding how it is made, how it can be changed and how they can make it themselves.

Through Slow Sew Studio, our sewing school, we teach practical sewing skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. Our beginner courses take students through the fundamentals of sewing. From getting comfortable with a machine and understanding patterns and fabric to taking measurements, creating basic blocks and making their own garments.

Our upcycling workshops explore how existing clothing can be transformed rather than discarded. We experiment with ways to alter, repurpose and reimagine garments, showing that an old piece doesn't necessarily have to become waste.

We also create opportunities for people to share skills with one another, whether that's sewing, crochet, mending, upcycling or another creative practice.

You don't have to consider yourself a designer, maker or artist to participate. Our workshops are about curiosity, experimentation and gaining the confidence to try.

Workshops

Alongside our sewing school, we host a range of creative and upcycling workshops throughout the year, often led by local creatives and makers.

These workshops are designed to be accessible, practical and fun, giving you the chance to learn something new, experiment with materials and leave with a skill or creation of your own.
