More than a retail space. A space for people.

Barley’s Bloset has always been more than a retail space for me. Social development has always been close to my heart, and with my educational background in social work, creating spaces where people can connect, participate and feel a sense of belonging has always been an important part of what I wanted Barley’s Bloset to become.

I wanted the space to be somewhere people could engage with without feeling like they had to spend money to participate. That has always been a priority, creating meaningful ways for people to connect with one another, support small businesses, share skills and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Our community programme is an extension of that vision.

Crochet Club

Come together to create warmth.

Our Crochet Club is a free, social gathering where people can come together to crochet, knit, learn from one another and make something with purpose.

During winter, we work together to make scarves and beanies for our local homeless community, turning our collective time and skills into something that can make a tangible difference.

You don’t need to be an expert. Whether you’re an experienced crocheter, learning your first stitch or simply want to spend time with other creative people, you’re welcome.

Seasonal Markets

A platform for local creativity.

Four times a year, we open our space for our seasonal markets, bringing together independent designers, artists, makers, small businesses and creatives.

Our markets are about more than shopping. They’re an opportunity to discover new businesses, meet the people behind them and support local creativity in a relaxed, community-focused environment.

Clothing Swaps & Community Events

Our clothing swaps, gatherings and collaborative events create opportunities to participate without the expectation of buying something.

We believe clothing can be a starting point for connection, a way to share, exchange, learn and rethink how we consume.

We regularly collaborate with other creatives, organisations and small businesses to bring new experiences into the space.

Host Something With Us

Have an idea for the space? We’re always interested in hearing from creatives, facilitators, makers and community organisers who want to bring people together.

If you have a workshop, gathering, event or community initiative that you think would fit at Barley’s Bloset, we’d love to hear from you.

What we run

Crochet Club

Crochet Club is a free, community-led initiative at Barley’s Bloset, bringing people together to share skills, make new connections, and create something meaningful with our hands. Together, we crochet and knit pieces that are turned into warm scarves, beanies and blankets for members of our local homeless community.

Sewing classes

A six-week, hands-on beginner sewing course exploring garment-making from the ground up. Learn sewing machine basics, build practical skills, understand how clothes are constructed, and create a simple garment — no prior experience required.

6 weeks · 3-hour sessions · Small groups · Shared machine time

Workshops

Hands-on sessions with local makers. Learn a skill, meet the community. Dates go out by newsletter and on Instagram.

Clothing swaps

Barley’s Bloset Clothing Swaps are a community-led way to give your pre-loved pieces a new life. Bring clothes you no longer wear, swap with others, and discover something new — all while keeping fashion circular, conscious, and fun.
